West Ham to hold press conference after latest Julen Lopetegui sack update
West Ham United are set to hold a pre-match press conference on Wednesday ahead of their FA Cup clash with Aston Villa but it is unclear who will be in charge, according to The Sun.
The news outlet reported via its print edition [6 January, pg 49] that West Ham are said to be waiting on Graham Potter’s response after it was claimed he is set to take over at the London Stadium [Sean Whetstone].
As it stands, it will be Julen Lopetegui who is expected at the press conference scheduled for 8 January.
Lopetegui is still in a job at West Ham but that could change over the coming days or even hours, but The Sun claims that a falling-out with Tim Steidten has done his chances of remaining at the club no favours.
Graham Potter to take charge of West Ham United v Aston Villa?
A pretty hectic Monday (6 January) saw reports of Lopetegui’s long-awaited sacking [talkSPORT], although no official confirmation was forthcoming.
However, at this stage, it seems only a matter of time until an official announcement is made after Potter was spotted with Steidten following the news of his pending appointment.
Is he likely to be in charge for the FA Cup tie? It’s highly unlikely, although stranger things have happened. But an appointment could happen before the Irons are due to take on Fulham on 14 January.

For some time now, the Hammers have needed a new sense of direction and its quite remarkable that we’ve got to January without seeing a change.
Potter has all of the necessary attributes to make that change and make it successful based off his time at Brighton. If he does get appointed, there should be little cause for concern going forward.
