West Ham target Jannik Vestergaard to cost between £15-20million
West Ham United want Southampton centre-back Jannik Vestergaard, and he is available for £15-£20million, according to talkSPORT.
The Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath reported last week that the Hammers have identified the Denmark international as a transfer target, but talkSPORT claims Leicester City have now joined them in the race with the Foxes in need of a centre-back after Wesley Fofana picked up a nasty injury in pre-season.
Vestergaard, 29, is in the final year of his deal with the Saints, and they could be forced to sell if suitors meet their asking price.
Solid option
The 6ft 6in giant is one of best centre-backs outside of the top-six clubs, and Southampton are demanding a decent fee for him.
Vestergaard’s aerial presence in a massive threat at both ends of the pitch, and it is something West Ham could do with.
While Leicester City are without any doubt an attractive option, he knows he is only joining as a cover for the time being.
The Dane has a realistic chance of playing regularly under Hammers boss David Moyes at the London Stadium should a move work out, and we can confidently say he is capable of giving our best centre-back Angelo Ogbonna a run for his money.
Vestergaard has plenty of Premier League experience and has been brilliant at international level, helping his country to the semi-finals of the European Championships a couple of weeks ago.
Moyes knows exactly what he would be getting in the man mountain, but he could prefer a young option that can serve us in the long-term.
Ogbonna and Craig Dawson are already in their 30s, and landing another ageing centre-back could be a cause of concern for the board.
