West Ham target Bamba Dieng edging closer to Newcastle – report
West Ham want to sign Marseille forward Bamba Dieng before the January transfer deadline, but they trail Newcastle in the race for his signature according to Foot Mercato.
The Hammers want to sign a striker before Monday’s deadline to add goals to the club and help cover Michail Antonio, who has struggled for form recently.
But with time running out, they seem to be losing ground in the race for Dieng, with Newcastle at the front of the queue for the £12m signing.

According to Foot Mercato, the Magpies are currently the club hottest on his trail but they have several targets in their sight and there is no guarantee they make their interest concrete.
Should they fail with other signings, they say that Newcastle will ‘certainly’ return to the Ligue 1 club who are desperate for cash.
Attack attack attack
West Ham need a striker, Marseille need cash. Get a deal done.
Bamba Dieng has been likened to Didier Drogba in the past for his physical style and attributes and is in good form this season with four goals in seven starts.

His pace and strength would fit right in with the West Ham squad, but also his ability to run into the channels and link play would be of great benefit.
The club are used to making signings of young players and helping them to develop, so he ticks all the boxes of a typical David Moyes player and there is time to get a deal done before Monday’s deadline.
They need a striker without a doubt and while there are some question marks about Dieng’s quality long-term, he is good enough to be brought in and do a job now.
