West Ham: talkSPORT broadcaster slams David Moyes in sack verdict after Arsenal ‘humiliation’

West Ham United’s “humiliation” in the defeat to Arsenal was a “sackable offence” for David Moyes and the Scotsman must conjure up some “magic” to earn a new deal, according to Tom Rennie.

The Hammers were thrashed at the London Stadium on Sunday (12 February) as Mikel Arteta’s side ran riot to come away as 6-0 winners and increase the pressure on Moyes from the Irons’ fanbase.

While some supporters have viewed the heavy defeat as a one-off, talkSPORT broadcaster Rennier has been left enraged by the loss and has gone as far as to suggest Moyes should be sacked before the end of the season.

Speaking on SiriusXM via X (12 February) he said: “Fans want a more aggressive approach, they want an offensive plan and most notably for me, if you go to the game and spend your hard-earned money to see your team play, they want the ball a bit!

“They want to go home having enjoyed themselves. If you went to the Brighton game, the Bournemouth game and the Crystal Palace game of late, you could see this coming. Brighton should have won six or 7-0 against West Ham and Bournemouth should have been 4-0 up at half-time.

“They sit off and wait for a chance to attack and that needs to change right now for David Moyes if he does want to stay because right now, there is no scenario that his new contract is greeted by a combination of anger and indifference and indifference I would say is worse than anger.

“People felt ashamed, embarrassed or indifferent and when that happens, that is the worst thing that can happen to a football club. He needs to conjure up some Jesse Lingard-era magic, or there is no way that he stays because that was the biggest home humiliation in the history of West Ham United football club.

“Not to disparage Arsenal who were good, but that performance on its own, for me, was close to a sackable offence.”

David Moyes Arsenal defeat a ‘sackable offence at West Ham

This sort of heavy defeat has indeed been coming in recent weeks. The Irons have rode their luck and have been fortunate to only lose a number of important goals by the odd goal, but that pressure told on Sunday.

It doesn’t seem likely at this moment in time Moyes will be signing on the dotted line at the London Stadium and while he has been a success for much of his time, recent performances have been far from good enough.

Sunday’s defeat alone is unlikely to see Moyes sacked, but it does feel as though the Irons’ board will take their time before handing the 60-year-old a contract extension beyond the end of the season.

The next few matches could not only define the remainder of the Hammers’ campaign but also the Scotsman’s career in East London. But at the moment, everything appears to be heading in one direction.
