West Ham table offer for Marseille centre-back Duje Caleta-Car
West Ham United have submitted a bid worth in the region of £14.4million to Marseille for centre-back Duje Caleta-Car, according to L’Equipe.
The Hammers’ offer is an initial £11.9million (€14million) with £2.5million (€3million) in add-ons and bonuses, but the Ligue 1 outfit are holding out for £17million (€20million).
The Croatian international, 24, has two years left on his current deal, and West Ham are continuing talks with Marseille despite the fact that he once refused to speak with them over a move in September 2020.
Huge move
L’Equipe are as credible as they come, and it seems West Ham are finally ready to bring in a centre-back this summer.
With Angelo Ogbonna still injured, manager David Moyes is set to start the new Premier League season with Craig Dawson and Issa Diop as our only first-team options in the centre of the defence.
Three senior centre-backs are clearly not enough for the season, and getting a deal done for Caleta-Car would be huge.
The defender was one of Croatia’s best players at the European Championships, and Moyes – a part of UEFA Technical team at the tournament – might have taken note.
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked with the defender, and that speaks volumes.
We are some quids away from what Marseille are demanding, and both parties should be able to sort a fee out soon if the player agrees to a move.
West Ham are not likely to make more than two signings this summer, but landing a top centre-back would be good for our campaign, and hopefully, a striker can be added into the mix.
