West Ham target Sam Johnstone will reportedly be available between £15 and £20million this summer.

The Hammers are keen on signing a goalkeeper this summer as he could either provide a backup to Lukasz Fabianski or take over the reins from the 36-year-old.

Sam Johnstone has been one name that’s been linked, and he could be available for a rather steep price for a Championship player.

Speaking to Football FanCast, Express and Star journalist Luke Hatfield said, “£15 to £20million [offer], maybe they’ll consider it.

“Albion may rate him higher than that, but with one year left on your contract, you’re in a sticky situation.”

Looking at his rather expensive valuation, some Hammers fans were put off by the update.

They would rather the club signed PSG goalkeeper Alphonse Areola after The Daily Mail reported that the Irons are in talks to bring him back to the Premier League.

Here’s what they said:

Fair enough

Johnstone is a quality keeper, but whether or not he’s worth what West Brom are asking for him is another thing altogether. With one year left on his deal, we could still end up signing for cheap, but at this price it seems to be a no go.

Areola is an interesting one as he’s struggled at Fulham on loan so we’re unsure whether he would be a good player for us.

One can make the argument that he was at Fulham, but Johnstone was at a relegated club too and he still managed to stand out ahead of some of the league’s top keepers.

That said, it’s really important we think of a long-term replacement for Fabianski now before it becomes too late and we’re compelled into overpaying for our first-choice target.
