According to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones, Jesse Lingard requested for West Ham to wait until the last week of the transfer window before moving for him.

The England attacking midfielder, 28, was keen to wait and see if he would get into the first-team plans of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United before making a decision.

With playing opportunities looking already hard to come by at Old Trafford, Lingard is ready to return to West Ham and David Moyes’ side have plans to move for him in the coming days.

We asked our esteemed panel of West Ham Super Fans over on Facebook what they think about the attacker’s willingness to return to the London Stadium in the final week of the window, and here is how they replied.

Lingard wants to play regularly this season to keep his World Cup dreams alive, and he is not going to get that chance at Old Trafford.

After his impressive loan spell with the Hammers during the latter half of last season, the London club have attempted to bring him back permanently in time for pre-season, but a deal did not work.

As Jones pointed out, they can get him for around £10million less in the final days of the window with Man Utd desperate to make money on a player in the final 12 months of his contract.

West Ham fans will gladly welcome Lingard back, but a lot of them are already frustrated after earlier attempts in the summer to get him failed.

Moyes wants an attacking midfielder in order to have enough depth in the department, and a move for someone who has already proven himself during a permanent stint makes sense.

It will be interesting to see how things go in the days leading up to the transfer deadline, but the Man Utd needs to join the Irons for the sake of his career.
