According to The Athletic, West Ham United cannot afford the proposed £30 million fee Manchester United want for Jesse Lingard this summer.
That could effectively rule the Hammers out of a potential permanent deal for the England international attacking midfielder.
It remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford outfit would be open to doing business for a lesser fee, with just a year left on the contract of the 28-year-old.
We asked our esteemed panel of West Ham Super Fans over on Facebook what they think about the quoted fee Man Utd are demanding for Lingard.
Here is what they said:
The Red Devils are clearly not keen on selling the attacker on a cheap, and West Ham are not looking to meet their demands from the look of things.
Despite his age and contract situation, Lingard justified his valuation during his five-month loan spell at the London Stadium in the second half of last campaign.
His chances of playing regularly at Old Trafford next season are even now slimmer, with the signing of Jadon Sancho set to make things worse.
Lingard needs to feature regularly for a club in the coming months if he wants to play for the Three Lions at next summer’s World Cup, and with the Hammers unable to pay what Man Utd want, a move elsewhere could be on the cards.
Every West Ham fan would love to have him back next season, but we believe that could be off the cards.
We need to get in a player that can replicate what Lingard did, and manager David Moyes has a tough task on his hands.
The Irons board are not likely to splash the cash this summer, and hopefully, we can land a bargain deal for a top attacking midfielder.
In other West Ham news, talks are underway as Hammers want to sign 27-year-old with six trophies.
