West Ham submit offer to sign Aston Villa striker Danny Ings

West Ham have reportedly made an offer for Aston Villa striker Danny Ings as David Moyes looks to boost his attacking options after struggles in front of goal this season, according to The Telegraph.

The Daily Mail previously reported [5 January] that the Hammers were looking to sign a striker this month and they have joined in the race to sign Ings in the winter transfer window.

The 30-year-old has proven an established Premier League goalscorer throughout his career, bagging 68 goals from under 200 appearances, and is currently Villa’s top goalscorer in the English top flight with six goals.

The Hammers have struggled for goals so far this season, with just 15 goals from their 19 league games and the club are desperate to add some firepower to their ranks with Moyes’ men currently sitting in the relegation zone on 15 points.

And according to Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath [18 January], the Hammers have lodged a bid to sign the former Southampton striker this month and is rated at around £15million by his current employers.

Catalyst

Signing Ings could well be the catalyst David Moyes needs to transform the Hammers’ fortunes around this season.

The 30-year-old has been a bit-part player for Villa this season but has still managed to register six goals so far, meaning he’s a reliable and consistent threat in front of goal.

The Hammers’ return of 15 goals from 19 games is a dreadful return and made even more damning considering the amount of talent at Moyes’ disposal in Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio.

However, none of them possesses the pedigree that Ings has, and the knack to score goals at a consistent rate.

With Antonio also rumoured to be heading for the exit door this month or at the end of the season, acquiring Ings makes a lot of sense, seeing as the Est London club could provide him with the regular game time he craves.
