West Ham strike agreement for new manager instantly after Lopetegui sack – Ornstein

West Ham have struck an agreement with Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui, according to David Ornstein.

The Hammers confirmed on 8 January that the Spaniard had been sacked from his role at the London Stadium after just six months in charge.

The Athletic journalist has now reported (8 January) that the former Chelsea boss looks set to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal in East London which will see him charge at Villa Park on Friday (10 January).

Graham Potter to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham

The former Real Madrid boss has not had the brightest spell in charge in East London which has caused plenty of frustration.

Results and performances have been generally poor since the 58-year-old took charge, following on from David Moyes’ successful spell as manager.

As a result, it is very little surprise to supporters that Lopetegui has faced the sack from David Sullivan and it is certainly positive to have a new option lined up so soon.

Potter represents a progressive option who proved during his spell with Brighton just how positive his style of football can be, which will certainly excite fans.

The ex-Swansea City boss didn’t fare well at Stamford Bridge but has taken a spell away from the game which may have allowed him to improve and develop.

This news will certainly add some excitement to the upcoming FA Cup clash against Aston Villa which could see a new manager bounce take the Irons through to the fourth round.

In other West Ham news, a fresh advantage to sign a “magnificent” forward may be found after the latest development.
