West Ham starlet Nathan Trott is set to join Nancy on loan in a bid for more first-team football

Nathan Trott is “poised” to join French side Nancy after West Ham agreed to send the goalkeeper out on a season-long loan, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

They claim that the “highly-rated” 22-year-old is seeking more first-team football, and a move to the French second tier is seen as the best option for him. Trott spent last season with the Hammers’ first team, but because of the presence of Lukas Fabianski, Darren Randolph and David Martin, he was limited to one appearance for the first team.

West Ham are also closing in on the signing of Alphonse Areola, which means Trott could be limited to even fewer first-team opportunities [the Evening Standard]. Therefore, this is a sensible move by both the club and the player, and hopefully, Trott can thrive.

Sensible move?

The 22-year-old joined West Ham in 2016, and since then, he has made 63 appearances for the Hammers’ various youth sides but only one senior appearance.

Now that he is 22, he really needs to be playing more first-team football, so this is a wise move by Trott.

If he can establish himself as Nancy’s first-choice goalkeeper, he should be better prepared to challenge for West Ham’s first team next season or perhaps join a better club on loan.

With Areola also looking set to join, Trott really would have got nowhere near David Moyes’ first team, even with the Hammers competing on four fronts this season.

Therefore, this move makes total sense and hopefully, everything works out well for Trott as we await the official confirmation from the club that he has joined Nancy.

Trott could become West Ham’s future first-choice goalkeeper, but he has to be prepared to put the work in on loan first, and this is the ideal opportunity for him to show what he can do.
