West Ham star Mohammed Kudus issues apology after ’embarrassing’ turn of events
West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus has issued an apology after failing to lead Ghana to victory over the international break.
Ghana face the threat of missing out on the 2025 AFCON after picking just two points from their four group-stage games so far.
The Black Stars earned only a point from their two clashes with 120th-ranked Sudan during this international break, with Tuesday’s (15 October) 2-0 loss labelled as “embarrassing” by Ghanaian media.
After being on the receiving end of severe criticism in the last few days, stand-in captain Kudus has now apologised to the fans.
Taking to Instagram (16 October), the 24-year-old wrote: “On behalf of the entire team, I would like to extend our sincerest apologies to the people of Ghana for our recent performances against Sudan in Accra and Libya.
“Despite our utmost effort and dedication, the results did not reflect our aspirations or the pride we have in representing our beloved nation.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this has caused, and we share those feelings.
“We want to assure Ghanaians that we are committed to learning from our mistakes, regrouping, and working tirelessly to restore the Black Stars to our former glory.
“We value the unwavering support and loyalty you’ve shown us, and we’re determined to make you proud once again.
“We urge all fans to stand by us during this challenging period. Your encouragement and faith in us will fuel our determination to succeed.
“We will not give up. We look forward to redeeming ourselves in the upcoming matches.”
Mohammed Kudus needs to do more for West Ham United and Ghana
While Kudus was a silver lining for Ghana in their stalemate with Sudan last week, his performance against them on Tuesday left a lot to be desired.
There are no doubts about the winger’s immense quality, but there is no denying that he has been far from his best for club and country this season.
It took him nine games in all competitions to open his account for West Ham this term, with his first goal coming in the 4-1 win over Ipswich Town before the international break.
With Crysencio Summerville waiting on the sidelines, there is a case to be made about the Dutchman starting ahead of Kudus against Tottenham on Saturday (19 October).

The Ghanaian established himself as a key player for the Irons under David Moyes last season after arriving from Ajax, grabbing eight goals and six assists in 33 league games.
However, it is worth noting that only two of those goals came in the second half of the season.
Kudus’ struggles in front of the goal will therefore be a concern for Julen Lopetegui as the manager looks to improve after making a poor start to his tenure.
