West Ham star Declan Rice impresses Lucy Ward

West Ham star Declan Rice impressed BT Sport pundit Lucy Ward with his first-half header that hit the post.

The 22-year-old managed to get on the end of a free-kick and flicked a sublime header towards the far corner, but his effort came back off the post, and Issa Diop failed to put in.

However, even though it didn’t end up as a goal for the Hammers, Ward was pleased with Rice’s effort.

She said: “He’s got the scoring bug, hasn’t he?

“It was a terrific header from Declan Rice.”

Rice then opened the scoring and Ward said: “Brilliant, absolutely brilliant and it’s that man again.”

Rice close to adding to his tally.

The 22-year-old scored in the Irons’ first Europa League match against Dinamo Zagreb after a run from his own half.

This was a very different effort, and if a striker had produced a similar header, then you would guess he would have been very pleased.

Unfortunately, the shot hit the post and bounced to Diop, who should have done better really but managed to prod the ball wide.

However, he was not to be denied as he got on the end of a Michail Antonio pass and slammed the ball home, sparking carnage in the away end as Vienna’s fans reacted badly.

Rice has been fantastic for the Irons this season, and it seems as if he is intent on adding more goals to his game.

The Irons dominated most of the first half and hit the post again through Craig Dawson, but just couldn’t quite double their tally.
