West Ham sources share why Graham Potter chose Hammers over Everton
Graham Potter chose to make the switch to West Ham United over Everton due to their track record of allowing managers to “build” something at the club, according to BBC Sport journalist Jess Anderson.
The former Chelsea boss was the subject of attention from both the Toffees and the Hammers over the last couple of weeks but has chosen the London Stadium outfit as his next venture into football [West Ham Official X account, 9 January].
Julen Lopetegui’s tenure was blighted by inconsistency and it felt like his time at the London Stadium had already run its course, with Potter now the man chosen to take the reins.
Writing for the BBC Sport website (9 January), Anderson shared what sources “close to the situation” have said about Potter’s switch.
“Sources with an understanding of the situation told BBC Sport that Potter had received other offers since leaving Chelsea, but he had chosen West Ham given the stable ownership and a track record of allowing managers time to build,” she wrote.
“He also felt the club had a good squad compared to others in the lower end of the Premier League and the job felt like a good fit.”
West Ham United and Graham Potter are a perfect match for one another
Over the last couple of seasons, Hammers fans have had to deal with the regressive style of play that both David Moyes and Lopetegui brought to the London Stadium.
While Potter may have been out of work for the last 18 months or so, it feels like this is a step in the right direction for the Hammers as they look to make their way back up the Premier League table.

Now that the 49-year-old has been officially announced as the Hammers’ manager, it feels like it could be the start of a new era at the London Stadium, which, is all that fans have wanted since the start of the campaign.
At the moment, it’s unclear how well the former Chelsea boss is going to do but with names such as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s already being linked with a move to West Ham, it feels like things could start going in an upward trajectory [Daily Mail, 9 January, page 69].
