West Ham signing Hull City winger Keane Lewis-Potter a risky move

West Ham United have been linked with Hull City star winger Keane Lewis-Potter for a move in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a number of Premier League clubs including the Hammers, Southampton and Bournemouth.

On May 19, Illicali, while talking in a press conference as quoted in a report by Daily Mail, insisted that the youngster was not for sale.

“Keane is a God-given talent. He has got potential to be a great player,” Illicali said. “We hope that we bring Hull back to the Premier League with him in the side.

“Of course, we have big offers for him. If I had any interest in making any money, there cannot be a better deal than that.

“But I reject all of these. Even if they offer £30m to me, I will not sell him because I think his presence is much more important than anything for this club at the moment.”

A Top English Talent

Considering we are already seeing top English wingers in the making like Bakayo Saka and Jack Grealish, adding a youngster like Lewis-Potter into that list very soon will not come as a surprise.

Even though his preferred position is left-wing, he can also play as an attacking midfielder, thus making him a valuable asset for Hull City.

Lewis-Potter doesn’t just score goals but he also has the ability to get to the byline and supply crosses into the box for his strikers.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a great 2021-22 season with the Tigers, scoring 12 goals and providing four assists across 45 appearances in all competitions.

Having so many appearances at such a young age shows that Lewis-Potter has got everything in his arsenal to take the next big step.

However, at a time when West Ham need to invest in so many areas on the pitch, investing something like £30-35 million to sign a player who has no experience of playing in the top-flight football will be a big risk.
