West Ham should play with two strikers v Aston Villa – Darren Bent

Darren Bent believes that David Moyes should start both Michail Antonio and Gianluca Scamacca for West Ham in their match against Aston Villa.

The Hammers are having a tough beginning to their campaign where they have lost all three of their matches, languishing at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Bent, while talking to talkSPORT, suggested that it’s time to give the newly-signed striker his first start in the league competition.

“It’s a difficult one for David Moyes,” he said. “He’s bought in some players I know and I’ve heard him speak. There’s a bit of anxiety there.

“He’s getting a bit frustrated with the lack of investment that’s going into the playing squad. I think he’s got to change a couple of things.

“I think Scamacca now has to come in and start. Obviously scored again last night. He’s in good form. Looks like he’s raring to go.

“I know, obviously you’ve got Antonio, who’s been there, their main man for such a long time and it was always like, if he gets an injury, who comes in to replace him?

“Well, it’s not injury now, it’s the case of lack of form at the minute. I know he’s got against viable in the first leg, but I think it’s time to give some matcher a chance or play them both together, maybe change the system.”

Important

West Ham entered the campaign hoping that they will be able to improve their last season’s performances where they managed to finish on the seventh position in the league table and also qualified for the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League.

However, just three weeks into the new season and things are already looking far bleaker than many would’ve anticipated as they side have lost all three matches and are the only team to have no points thus far in the league campaign.

Therefore, it makes total sense to what Bent has said because changing the system and playing with two strikers might give the players a much-needed boost to go out and express themselves, that too against a team like Aston Villa who themselves are struggling big-time.

It is important that Moyes must experiment in the next match and give the players the freedom on the pitch which might work for them instead of trying to keep things extremely tight.
