West Ham set to miss out on Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo

West Ham will not be able to sign Clermont striker Mohamed Bayo during the January transfer window, according to Alan Nixon.

The reliable journalist took to his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning to share the update amid the Hammers’ links with the France-born 23-year-old.

David Moyes would love to bolster his striking ranks, but he has to look elsewhere as the Ligue 1 outfit have decided that Bayo is not for sale this month.

West Ham

The Sun journalist said: “West Ham, Brighton and Southampton won’t get striker Bayo from Clermont this season.

“Now needed to avoid relegation.”

Move on quickly

Bayo has bagged nine goals and assisted another two in 17 league games this season, and West Ham could do with such a player providing cover for Michail Antonio.

The Guinea international also bagged 22 goals in 38 games last term and will surely give the Jamaican international a run for his money if snapped up.

Bayo can also prove to be a long-term replacement for Antonio going forward, but a move has to wait until summer from the look of things.

Clermont have won just four out of 19 league games so far this season, with only two points separating them from the drop zone.

West Ham

As a result of their situation, releasing their sources of goals right now is not possible, and the Irons need to quickly move on.

Landing a striker will definitely help boost their top-four chances, and while they are set to miss out on one that could prove to be a bargain buy, there are bound to be other quality options on their wish list for the winter.
