West Ham set to miss out on Boulaye Dia as Villarreal pip them to striker
West Ham United are set to miss out on Reims striker Boulaye Dia as Villarreal has won the race for his signature, according to Le10Sport.
The Ligue 1 outfit had discussions with West Ham and Hertra Berlin in recent days, but it is the La Liga side that have emerged top.
The Senegalese will join Villarreal for just £10.25million and is on his way to Spain where he will pen a five-season deal.
Missed chance?
West Ham are in dire need of a striker and Dia could have been an excellent signing for just £10.25million.
The 24-year-old ended last season with 16 goals across all competitions having bagged just 10 league goals in 42 games across the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons, and will most likely continue to get better going forward.
The Senegalese has experience playing in the Europa League too, and that would have been an added advantage for us as we look forward to European competition next season.
The Irons are yet to make any signings this summer, and we could struggle to land a quality striker for that cheap.
We have not been linked with plenty names in the department, and we reckon manager David Moyes wants to keep things a secret.
Dia has the potential of hitting the ground running in the Spanish top-flight if his move to Villarreal works out, and West Ham could rue missing out on him.
Hopefully, we can get our hands on a quality finisher too as that could be the difference between having another impressive season or struggling.
