West Ham set for £24m windfall if they finish in Europa League positions
West Ham could land £34million if they finish sixth in the Premier League this season, according to Claret & Hugh.
It is believed the board budgeted in an expected boost of £10million due to the anticipation of finishing lower in the table.
However, David Moyes has defied expectation and a point against Southampton would see the club qualify for Europe, and receive £24million more than they expected.
Claret & Hugh report Moyes will be given a summer transfer budget of £50million as a result, while 100% of player sales will be reinvested back into that budget.
Bigger budget needed
If GSB plans to have a net spend of less than £50million we can wave away our chances of progression.
We need a proven Premier League goalscorer this summer and they do not come cheap, with one target, Tammy Abraham, set an asking price of £40million [The Telegraph].
Jesse Lingard is also a must-buy and according to latest reports Manchester United could demand £21.5million for the midfielder [Ekrem Konur] – that would cost almost half our budget.
And given we will be competing in Europe Moyes will no doubt be keen to strengthen his back-up options, and that could mean a new left-back and a new right-back joining, and even a central midfielder with Mark Noble not getting any younger.
All that means a budget of £50million is unlikely to be enough, and if Moyes is not backed after all his good work this season the fans could, and should, turn on GSB once again.
