West Ham set £17m price tag for Felipe Anderson – report
West Ham could be poised for another transfer disaster after setting a £17million valuation for Felipe Anderson this summer.
That is according to club insider Claret and Hugh who report that the winger could be off for less than half of what the Irons paid for the Brazilian in 2018.
West Ham shelled out a then club-record fee of £36million to lure the Lazio star to East London and he made a superb start to life in the capital under Manuel Pellegrini, scoring nine and assisting four in 36 Premier League appearances.
However events took a downturn in the last campaign with the Irons struggling and Anderson suffered as a result, making only five goal contributions.
He was subsequently farmed out on loan to Porto at the beginning of this season after making two very brief Premier League appearances.
Anderson has not fared much better in Portugal, however, making just one start in the Primeira Liga and it appears he is now unwanted at two separate clubs.
Another expensive flop
What a fall from grace.
Anderson showed shades of Dimitri Payet in his early Irons performances with a number of swashbuckling displays but failed to follow up his early promise.
David Moyes has added Said Benrahma and Jesse Lingard (on loan) to a squad already containing the attacking talents of Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals, among others, so the chances of the 27-year-old returning to the London Stadium appear minimal at best.
His £85,000 per week contract runs out in the summer of 2022 [spotrac] and this looks like being the last chance to cash in on him before he is available to speak to clubs with a view to a lucrative pre-contract arrangement.
West Ham sold club-record signing Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January at a £25 million loss and it looks like they will make a similar forfeiture on Anderson at the end of the season.
This current ownership group is losing money on players at a rapid rate and a more efficient plan and recruitment structure needs to be put in place otherwise players will keep coming for extortionate fees and leaving for peanuts.
