West Ham scouted Darwin Nunez during Liverpool v Benfica game

West Ham reportedly sent a scout to track striker Darwin Nunez who scored for Benfica in their 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday night.

According to the Daily Express, the race to sign the 22-year-old is intensifying as a host of clubs were present to watch him.

Along with the Hammers, it’s understood that Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were all in attendance.

Apart from that, it’s believed that Manchester United have tracked the Uruguayan centre forward at least 10 times this season.

Big move on cards

The Hammers allegedly tabled a bid for Nunez in the January window but did not match Benifca’s valuation.

Now, it seems like a host of clubs are going to be interested in signing him in the summer.

The 22-year-old is having an unbelievable season, scoring 28 goals in 35 games.

He’s also proving his mettle in the Champions League, scoring against arguably the best centre-back in the world in Virgil van Dijk.

It remains to be seen where he does end up, but if it’s at West Ham, they’re going to have to pay a premium in order to secure his services – something which seems highly unlikely, as things stand.

That said, they cannot afford to let another window pass by without them signing a new striker.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have scouted a £20m-rated ‘Dangerous’ British striker and want to seal a permanent move this summer.
