West Ham schedule new press conference at London Stadium
West Ham have scheduled a new press conference after sacking Julen Lopetegui, according to Dom Smith.
Writing via his personal X account on Wednesday (8 January), the Evening Standard journalist says that there’ll be an official briefing at the London Stadium on Thursday (9 January) at 9am.
Lopetegui’s pre-match presser for the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa was cancelled on Tuesday (7 January) and on Wednesday afternoon, the Spaniard’s exit from the Hammers was confirmed.
Graham Potter is widely expected to replace him in charge of the Irons.
West Ham set to hire new manager
Potter has been out of work since leaving Chelsea in 2023 so it’s about time he returns to management after previous brilliant stints at Ostersund, Swansea and Brighton.
The 49-year-old has held out for a while for a new job but this just seems like it should be a decent fit for all parties.
It does beg the question though – why didn’t West Ham gun for him in the summer when David Moyes left?

Lopetegui always seemed like a strange hire based on his failure at Wolves, plus the fact that he was billed as a manager to transform the club’s style of play despite there not really being much evidence to back that up.
But West Ham fans should have a good idea about what Potter is all about after his stints at Brighton and Chelsea.
He should have the tools readily available to turn this Hammers side into one that should fly up the table. However, there are some things that need addressing in the winter transfer window.
A new striker should be at the top of his list.
And a new technical director should be at the top of David Sullivan’s.
