West Ham: Rio Ferdinand baffled by ‘mad’ David Moyes sack calls
Rio Ferdiand has been left baffled by “mad” calls to sack David Moyes after doing “remarkably well” at West Ham United.
As quoted by the Daily Star (25 October), the former centre-back was shocked to see Hammers fans calling for Moyes’ departure despite winning European silverware.
Ferdinand speculated on the if the Scotsman could take a so-called bigger job, but praised him for his work in Stratford.

Ferdinand said: “It’s mad, isn’t it? He won the Europa Conference League and some were saying ‘oh, he should be sacked’ – I couldn’t believe it.
“I saw debates online and I was thinking: ‘Wow, I’ve never known a man to win something, a trophy, especially an European trophy and then people talk about ‘Oh, should he or shouldn’t he even be in the job?’ I think he’s done remarkably well.
“He is looked at like a big, big figure at West Ham as he’s won a trophy. He got West Ham doing an open top bus parade. So I think he’d be happy where he is at the moment.
“If a big job comes up, should he get it up there? There’s so many people fighting for them.”
Contentious
While the majority of West Ham fans will be happy with the job Moyes has done at the club during his second spell, there will always be a section of the fanbase who want more.
Many point to the success of Aston Villa and Brighton who brought in top-level coaches who have brought them great success and a fresh philosophy.

The Europa Conference League trophy was, of course, a huge success, but poor league form last season did leave many doubting the former Everton boss.
This season, the Irons are flying. A poor loss to Unai Emery’s side has thrown a spanner in the works of European qualification, but Moyes will back himself to get into the top part of the table.
However, some fans think it’s time for change at that Moyes is not the long-term answer. While that does make sense, the boss has hardly put a foot wrong this season. He deserved the chance to remain, unless results sour significantly, after winning the club their first trophy since 1999.
