West Ham right-back Vladimir Coufal could be sold to fund defensive rebuild

West Ham full-back Vladimir Coufal is facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium, and could well be sold to fund a Hammers rebuild in the summer.

David Moyes has been busy this month bringing in two new additions this month in the form of Brazilian defender Luizao [18 December] and Danny Ings [20 January] from fellow Premier League side Aston Villa.

The Hammers have already sold a number of their players too, seeing both defensive stars in Craig Dawson and Harrison Ashby depart East London to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United respectively.

The club have endured a disappointing campaign so far, currently sitting just a point above the relegation places on 18 points from 20 Premier League games despite spending a lot of money last summer on star players such as Gianluca Scamacca, Nayef Aguerd, Maxwel Cornet and Lucas Paqueta.

Such form has put Moyes’ job security in serious jeopardy in recent weeks with many of his key stars underperforming following their tremendous campaign last term.

Michail Antonio, Tomas Soucek and Aaron Cresswell have been guilty of dropping their performance levels in recent weeks, and the former two have bee the subject of much interest from elsewhere and facing uncertain immediate futures at the London Stadium.

And one man who is also in danger of being sold in the near future is 30-year-old full-back, Coufal.

Earlier this month, it was claimed by Sky Sports [1 January] that the Czech Republic international was growing frustrated at West Ham and was labelled as “one to watch” on a potential exit.

Like his counterpart Soucek, Coufal has endured a disappointing campaign after excelling since his move in 2020. The right-back has certainly fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium, with Moyes preferring both summer signing Thilo Kehrer and academy product Ben Johnson.

And with his current contract in East London running to an end during the summer, it is incredibly uncertain whether he will be a West Ham player beyond the summer. And the Hammers could well cash in sooner in order to fund a potential defensive rebuild when the season concludes.
