West Ham relegation chances shift in supercomputer prediction after Brentford defeat

West Ham United are still not predicted to go down, though their chances of doing so have increased.

It was a day to forget for the Hammerws, as they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Europe-chasing Brentford on Saturday.

West Ham hit the woodwork on several occasions, though it was just not clicking for them in the final third.

With the defeat, and with Tottenham yet to play, it means that survival is now momentarily out of the Hammers’ hands.

And as a result, West Ham’s relegation chances have increased.

How likely are West Ham to be relegated?

Just last week, off the back of their 2-1 win over Everton, West Ham had a 36.84 per cent chance of relegation.

Now, since their 3-0 defeat to Brentford, those chances have increased to 48.84 per cent, as per Opta, though it still has them outside of the bottom three.

Tottenham remain the favourites to finish 18th, albeit that could change on Sunday when they face an Aston Villa with one eye on their Europa League tie with Forest.

Nuno Espirito Santo‘s side are forecasted to finish on 39 points, which, as it stands, would be expected to see them finish one mere point above the drop zone.

West Ham set for must-win encounter with title-chasing Arsenal

It goes without saying, but each and every game between now and the end of the season must be treated as a cup final, which wasn’t the case against Brentford.

The Hammers were a yard off the mark with everything they did, and they paid for it quite heavily.

Up next is a clash with Arsenal at the London Stadium, with the Gunners in need of all three points to maintain their title hopes.

And having not won at home against Arsenal in the Premier League since 2019, optimism levels for that may be low.
