West Ham ‘ready to push’ for Coventry striker Viktor Gyökeres – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham are “ready to push” for Coventry striker Viktor Gyökeres who has a year left on his contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 25-year-old striker is entering “key hours/days” in a decision regarding his future as tweeted by the Italian journalist (21 June).
The Hammers are among the Premier League clubs ready to make their move with Fulham and Wolves also interested and Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in the race as well.
However, any potential move would have to wait as Romano wrote that a “decision has not been made by the player and his camp – potential free transfer in 2024 being discussed.” An agreement could also be tricky to reach with the Coventry owner “asking for a huge amount.”
Decision time
This might be a deal West Ham need to weigh up if the reported huge fee is unaffordable.
The striker has just one year left on his deal with Championship club Coventry and it is unlikely that clubs will be willing to pay loads for the Swedish international if he is going to be available for free this time next year.

However, he demonstrated extraordinary quality last year in his side’s push for promotion and clubs may be desperate to get him in the door right now, especially West Ham who are in need of a brand-new striker.
Gyökeres scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in the Championship last season as Coventry reached the play-off finals and were beaten on penalties by Luton Town, and there is no doubt the player is ready for the step up to the Premier League.
This is one to watch with the player’s future seemingly set to be decided sooner rather than later and it would be a fantastic addition for the Hammers. A new striker is a priority at the club and Gyökeres would certainly bring goals.
