West Ham pursuit of Christian Eriksen still on – Claret and Hugh

West Ham United may follow up on their interest in Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen with a summer move lined up, according to Claret and Hugh.

The 30-year-old has begun to look just like his former self since he returned to football with the Bees after suffering a cardiac arrest playing for Demark in Euro 2020 last summer.

The Irons are now among a number of clubs who are monitoring his progress closely and could be tempted into a move for the Dane having proved his fitness.

He had hoped to return to Inter Milan once he recovered from his cardiac arrest but the Serie A ban players with artificial heart devices such as Eriksen has.

David Moyes could be preparing to bolster his midfield pack with Mark Noble retiring at the end of this season and Alex Kral set to head back to his parent club after failing to impress at the London Stadium.

Not needed

It is fantastic what Eriksen has been able to do after what happened to him last year and it’s a joy to see him enjoying his football again and thriving in the Premier League.

Having said that, West Ham don’t need yet another creative attacking midfielder when there are other far more pressing concerns that need to be addressed in the transfer market.

A striker and defenders will be highest on the Hammers’ shortlist with no other talisman than Michail Antonio and injuries at the back leaving them very short-staffed.

With Said Benrahma, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals, Moyes has his cute number 10s in the club already and unless he plans on selling at least two of them in the summer, then there really is very little reason to spend more on Eriksen.

If Eriksen would have dramatically improved the side then by all means spend what you can to get him but he isn’t astronomically better than any of the aforementioned trio so let’s leave it.

In other West Ham news, this 23-year-old needs to be released after a shocking season out on loan.
