West Ham & PSG want different deal for Alphonse Areola

West Ham United are “100%” in deep talks to sign Paris Saint-Germain keeper Alphonse Areola this summer.

Le10 journalist Hadrien Grenier has reported that there has been an impasse hit in negotiations at this moment in time.

The Hammers are said to want a loan-to-buy deal, whereas the French giants only want a straight sale for the World Cup winner.

Grenier, in discussion with L’Equipe, has shared the major update as negotiations continue at a slow pace this week.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the journalist has insisted that the Irons are looking to come to an agreement soon.

“It’s 100% confirmed by the team: West Ham has entered into discussions with PSG for Alphonse Areola,” he wrote.

“The English club would like a loan with an option to buy when Paris would prefer a sale. Negotiations will continue.”

Work to do.

David Moyes and the Irons aren’t known for doing straight permanent deals and have worked on loans in recent years.

Said Benrahma is the latest big-money deal to arrive on a loan initially, and then transform that into a permanent one after impressing.

Lukasz Fabianski still has one more year at the London Stadium, and will likely keep his number one spot.

The Irons won’t want to pay a permanent fee for a player who may spend the majority of his first season on the bench, and would likely rather pay it next summer.

Areola is more likely to be used permanently from next season onwards, so an initial loan this year to get him integrated into the squad will make sense before any money is spent.

Time will tell if this one gets done, but it looks as though there is still a long way to go before anything is complete.
