West Ham prepare verbal bid for Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca

West Ham are reportedly preparing a verbal bid to sign Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca in this summer window.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers will test the waters with an opening offer of £33.5million for the Italy international.

However, it’s understood that the Italian side are keen on £42million if they are to sell the 23-year-old this summer.

Via Twitter, Romano wrote, “West Ham are preparing an opening, verbal bid around €40m for Gianluca Scamacca. He’s in the list alongside Armando Broja, who just joined Chelsea squad in the USA & there’s lot of competition. Sassuolo want €50m for Scamacca. PSG, not intentioned to pay that much.”

One good season

Scamacca burst into the limelight last season after he had an incredible goal-scoring campaign in Italy.

However, this was the first time he’s managed to do it over the course of 38 games which may lead everyone to think about whether or not he can do it again.

Football has often seen one-season wonders and there’s a good chance that the Italian could suffer the same mate.

It may also be well worth noting that a number of players who’ve killed it in Italy have come to the Premier League and have struggled.

The pace and physicality of the English top flight has been too much for them to deal with and they’ve withered away with time.

If we were the decision makers at West Ham, our priority would be on Armando Broja and he is understood to be very keen on moving to the London Stadium.
