West Ham: Paul Merson predicts result of ‘hostile’ Brentford clash in David Moyes sack verdict
West Ham United are going to increase the pressure on David Moyes and continue their winless run in the Premier League when they face Brentford on Monday (26 February), according to Paul Merson.
The Sky Sports pundit doesn’t believe that the Hammers will be able to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest last time out, predicting that they will come away empty-handed as the Bees run out 2-1 winners.
Brentford have lost their past two matches, but Merson thinks that they’ll get back to winning ways at the London Stadium and create a “very hostile” atmosphere for the Irons supporters.
Writing for Sportskeeda on Thursday (22 February) he said: “I think this game is going to be decided in the first 20 minutes of the match. If Brentford score a goal, it could become a very hostile atmosphere. The fans could get on West Ham’s back, and you wouldn’t want to be a West Ham player at the stadium.
“With West Ham, their season could change so quickly. They’re still in the Europa League, and if they win their next few games, everybody will think it’s been an amazing season. The fans are putting pressure on the club at the moment, however, and they need to be careful what they wish for.
“Brentford will have to face Arsenal and Chelsea after this game, and they’ll need a result here. They did well at City and they could frustrate West Ham – I’m going to back Brentford to pull off a victory here.”
Will David Moyes get the sack at West Ham?
The West Ham supporters have begun to make their feelings known about Moyes in recent weeks and that message is unlikely to change if Merson’s prediction comes true and Brentford win at the London Stadium on Monday.
The Scotsman is fighting for his job currently and unless results begin to improve quickly, he could be facing the chop sooner rather than later. A defeat to Brentford could even potentially be the final nail in the coffin.

Recent results and performances have been nowhere near good enough and while Merson is right to suggest the mood in East London could change with just a couple of wins, it’s hard to see where the next three points are coming from.
Hopefully, the Hammers will be able to pull off an upset and get back to winning ways on Monday. If they don’t, things could get rather toxic inside the London Stadium very quickly.
