West Ham open talks with Spezia over January transfer for Jakub Kiwior

West Ham have reportedly opened talks with Spezia to sign their defender Jakub Kiwior in the January transfer window after the World Cup.

According to Milan Live [29 November], the Hammers are the most interested in signing the 22-year-old who’s currently in Qatar playing for Poland.

A price has been determined and while they would like him to stay, Spezia will listen to the opinions of the centre-back and sell him for the agreed value.

West Ham

Not needed?

We do not see the point of West Ham signing another centre-back in January as that’s not an area of the pitch that needs reinforcements in.

They signed Kurt Zouma last summer who fit in seamlessly well and this time around Thilo Kehrer and Nayef Aguerd moved to the London Stadium.

While Kehrer is slowly adapting, Aguerd was injured for most of the season and is now getting acquainted with all his teammates in London.

David Moyes clearly trusts the trio along with Craig Dawson and knows that he has Ben Johnson to play at centre-back as the last resort.

Even if Angelo Ogbonna leaves, they do have options in that area so it would be better if they spend the Kiwior funds in other areas.

A new central midfielder is important as Tomas Soucek clearly isn’t doing a job and if Lucas Paqueta is being played in midfield, a number 10 has to be the priority.
