West Ham open talks to sign Maxwel Cornet with Everton, Nottingham Forest deals stalling

West Ham are reportedly in talks with Burnley to see how much they want in order to part ways with Maxwel Cornet this summer.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Championship side have already rejected an approach made by Everton for the Ivorian while deals with Nottingham Forest as well as Fulham have stalled.

It is understood that David Moyes wants to sign the 25-year-old and the Hammers are willing to shell out £20million to bring him from Turf Moor to the London Stadium.

West Ham

Nixon wrote, “Burnley are willing to sell Cornet if the deal is right but have turned down Everton’s loan to buy option while Fulham and Nottingham Forest stall.

“Moyes knows he will have to top other offers tabled and is keen on a quick deal.

“Cornet had a fixed fee in his contract if Burnley went down but that has now been overruled because it came out in public.

“Burnley are adamant that they want more and now Hammers are in discussions to find what fee works for them.”

Sign him

All the three Premier League clubs that tried to sign him have not succeeded thus far and that’s partly down to money and the fact that they’re not established in the top flight.

West Ham can not only guarantee safety but they can also offer Cornet European football and the chance to challenge for a top four finish.

He will also be living in one of the best footballing cities in the world and certainly the hub for all things English football.

The Hammers appear to be taking this summer’s window extremely seriously and bringing in Cornet would be the cherry on the cake.

He would a good fit not just in the final third but also could be used a makeshift left-back or wing-back – giving Moyes plenty of options.
