West Ham open talks to sign Divock Origi, Moyes will love him

West Ham are unlikely to sign Chelsea’s Tammy Abrham this summer, so Liverpool forward Divock Origi would be a decent alternative.

David Moyes likes his strikers to be fast and mobile and the Belgian would fit the bill perfectly.

According to Football Insider, the Hammers have identified the 26-year-old as the man to lead the line for them next season and have made initial contact to bring him to the London Stadium this summer.

A fee of £15 million could be enough to tempt the Reds into selling which is £5 million less than what they wanted for the Belgium international in January.

Our pursuit of Abraham has been a long and eventually unsuccessful one. Unless things don’t change drastically in the coming days, the English striker will not be arriving at the London Stadium this summer.

Signing Origi, a player who’s almost been written off by most people, could prove to be a masterstroke by David Sullivan. While he’s not the striker who would get fans excited, we’re not left with too many options in the market, and from all realistic targets, he’s possibly our best bet.

For £15million, signing an established striker with years of Premier League experience is a bargain in today’s day and age.

He may not be a regular starter for Liverpool, but that’s because they’ve got an array of world class attackers in their ranks and the 26-year-old is seen as more of an impact substitute at Anfield.

In the past for the Reds, he’s shown himself to have the ability to step up on the big stage and scoring against the big teams.

Most notably, he bagged a brace against Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final that saw Liverpool overcome a three-goal deficit.

He also bagged a goal in the following game in the final against Tottenham to help win his side the Champions League.

We don’t have too many match-winners in our side and David Moyes would absolutely love having someone like Origi in his ranks.

The Belgian is a hard worker off the ball and is known to find pockets of space which give him a better chance of scoring goals.

His movement is very similar to Abraham’s and while his numbers may not be as good as the Englishman’s, he’s not been given the opportunities to prove himself completely at Liverpool.

Despite not handing him too many games, even Jurgen Klopp has previously waxed his lyrical.

In December 2019. the Reds boss said, via the club’s official website, “Div is unbelievably important for us.

“We knew it before but Div needs a good feeling, needs to be in a confident mood and then everybody knows what he is able to do.

“If you compare him with other players in our squad then they are all different, they all have different qualities and very often we used other three players up front, but Div was always so important for us.”

If we’re getting a player who’s been spoken of this highly and is only 26, shelling out £15million for him in today’s day and age is absolutely nothing.

We would possibly have spent twice on Abraham and this should free up funds for Moyes to strengthen in other areas – maybe in central midfield and at left-back.
