West Ham offer Winston Reid to Liverpool – report
Issa Diop has been linked with a January move to Liverpool to solve their centre back shortage but West Ham have proposed an alternative player – Winston Reid.
That is according to the Daily Star as the two sides get set to clash at the London Stadium on Sunday evening.
Ahead of the game it has been mooted in some quarters that Jurgen Klopp is considering a move for Diop who has found game time hard to come by in recent weeks such is the exceptional form of Craig Dawson alongside Angelo Ogbonna in the Hammers back line.
However with David Moyes not keen to let a valuable back-up option leave the club the Daily Star report that forgotten-man Reid has been offered to Liverpool instead.
Reid has 18 months left on his £70,000 per week contract [spotrac] at the London Stadium after not playing for the club since 2018 following a mixture of injury issues and a loan spell at MLS side Sporting Kansas City in 2020.
The 32-year-old returned in December and has featured for the U-23 side but chances in the first-team look extremely remote with Fabian Balbuena also on the books with Diop, Ogbonna and Dawson.
Irons outcast to PL champions first-choice?
If this is true then it will be a real statement of intent from the Irons that they are not prepared to succumb to the demands of the ‘bigger’ clubs and are only prepared to offload players on their own terms.
Reid was a vital part of the West Ham side for the best part of a decade but his days are numbered with injury ravaging the peak years of his career.
Centre back is an area West Ham are particularly blessed with quality options in with the aforementioned quartet as well as the likes of Aaron Creswell and Declan Rice that can be used as emergency cover.
If the club can shift his costly wages to Liverpool then fans might have to temporarily break off their fury with the board and applaud such a move.
