West Ham now very unlikely to sign Duje Caleta-Car as Marseille insist on sale – Jason Burt

West Ham United are now “very unlikely” to sign Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car, according to Jason Burt.

The Telegraph journalist has reported the twist in the past hour with the French club only insisting on a straight sale.

Burt insisted that the Hammers are still asking for a loan move for the Croatian international before tomorrow’s deadline.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Burt shared what he has been told about any potential move to the London Stadium.

“Told West Ham still very unlikely to sign defender Duje Caleta Car,” he wrote.

“They only want to loan him while Marseille are insisting on a sale.”

Very unlikely.

You’ve got to be kidding us.

How many times is this going to happen? GSB and the board always leave it until the final minute, and then when these twists happen, there is no backup plan.

The money is available after Daniel Kretinsky’s arrival, yet we are still pushing for loans and cheap deals.

Leaving transfers this late doesn’t hand you that luxury, and usually means you have to cough up the cash to get a deal done.

Ryan Taylor had reported earlier today (30 January) that the enforcer was on his way to the London Stadium, so this is a major twist now.

Angelo Ogbonna is out for the season, Kurt Zouma has had his problems already – a move for a new defender is critical.

Craig Dawson and Issa Diop have struggled hugely at times this season, so relying on these options when playing in Europe and pushing for the top four may not be enough.

Caleta-Car is needed, if he is the one target, time to cough up the cash.
