West Ham now in talks to sack Julen Lopetegui as internal checks done

West Ham United have held internal talks over the potential sacking of manager Julen Lopetegui, according to The Guardian.

The report from Jacob Steinberg (20 November) states that the Hammers have “made internal checks” on several managers including Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzic.

The report said West Ham are considering both short and long-term appointments should they decide to sack Lopetegui.

Julen Lopetegui could lose his job at West Ham by December

It has been a dismal campaign for Lopetegui and his side so far, with the Hammers having won just three of their first 11 games in the Premier League.

The concerns over Loptegui’s ability to lead the club forward are more than warranted and he could face the sack by December.

With their poor form in mind, the next two fixtures could prove crucial to the Spaniard who may have to overcome both Newcastle United and Arsenal, an extremely tough ask.

Both games will provide a huge test for the Irons and failure to win at least one of them could be the final nail in the coffin for his tenure at the London Stadium.

With the level of quality in the squad, it is criminal for them to where they are and considering that it was largely the same squad that qualified for Europe a few seasons ago, the underperformance under Lopetegui is deeply concerning.

Several managers have been touted as potential replacements with Edin Terzic, Graham Potter and Roger Schmidt all named in the past few weeks.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers have been linked with a move for Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill.
