West Ham need ‘miracle’ to have Jarrod Bowen fit for Sevilla rematch

West Ham have been dealt a massive blow in their hopes of turning around the Europa League tie against Sevilla with Jarrod Bowen to miss the game, according to Claret and Hugh.

The 25-year-old limped off early into the second half against Liverpool last weekend and missed Thursday’s first leg in Spain as a result.

The Irons’ top scorer now looks set to miss the return fixture as well as the weekend’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

“He will need a miracle recovery to be available for either the Europa Cup second leg match against Sevilla on Thursday evening or Spurs next Sunday,” Claret and Hugh report.

They also spoke to a source close to the Hammers who said, “He took a massive kick on his ankle causing massive bruising/damage. Due to the intensity of the kick, it’s taking time and it was only eight days ago.

“Sadly looks 7/14 days away, but it’s not a precise science and not going quite as we planned or hoped and it could be more.”

Nightmare

West Ham’s season is unravelling before our very eyes and this just makes David Moyes’ task that smidgen harder at the time he least needed it.

Bowen’s importance to the team has been no secret for some time now and you could see his absence being felt on Thursday at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The Hammers still played well in the Seville sun but had they been able to rely on Bowen to find that crucial goal, things might be much more comforting heading into the second leg.

Thursday’s return fixture now looks like an uphill battle for the Irons but all is not lost and a rowdy London Stadium atmosphere can help to carry the players over the line.

Maybe this will be the time that another attacker steps up and produces the world-class displays that Bowen had been on the regular and turn those frowns upside down.

In other West Ham news, Trevor Sinclair thinks the latest updates about another Premier League club are a “blessing in disguise” for the Irons.
