West Ham must secure Darwin Nunez summer deal after brilliant Champions League display v Liverpool

West Ham boss David Moyes must have enjoyed the performance of Darwin Nunez in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Nunez produced a spectacular performance, grabbing a goal to his name, as Benfica lost 3-1 in the first leg to Liverpool in the quarter-final first leg at the Stadium of Light.

The 22-year-old striker is heavily linked with a move to West Ham [A Bola] this summer, and his dazzling display surely will encourage the club to make a bid for him in the coming months.

While Liverpool proved to be a stronger opponent for the Portuguese outfit, Nunez almost single-handedly brought Benfica back into the game in the second half.

He attempted three shots and provided two key passes, according to Who Scored. However, his contribution overall was much more than that.

The Uruguayan striker won as many as four ariel duels and that is no mean feat, especially coming up against the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

West Ham are crying for a striker like him, and he looks a real deal. He has got pace, energy and most importantly the desire to score goals.

The youngster has scored 26 goals in all competitions this season already, but it is his performance in big competitions that should attract Moyes as the Hammers are aiming to become a regular top-four side.

It won’t be easy to prise him away. The likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham are also interested while the two Milan clubs are also in the mix to sign the talented striker.

He has a release clause of £126m in his contract, but Benfica could settle down for a fee of around £50million. Based on his performance against Liverpool, he looks every penny worth it.
