West Ham move was a ‘dream’ for Jack Wilshere

Following his release from Arsenal in 2018, Jack Wilshere joined West Ham but injuries limited his game time and he left in 2020 as a result.

The 30-year-old has since played for Bournemouth and he has just signed for Danish side Aarhus until the end of the season.

Things could have been very different for Wilshere had he avoided injuries that plagued his entire career in England but he has now found a new start in Denmark.

Speaking at his first press conference, Wilshere explained how his move to West Ham was a dream for him having been an Irons supporter as a child.

“I joined a great club in West Ham, I grew up supporting West Ham, so it was a dream of mine to play for them,” he said, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“It started okay and then there were difficult times with injuries. Not falling out with the manager but the manager having a different way of thinking, that can happen in football.

“All I was trying to do was make sure I was ready to play but unfortunately it didn’t work out there.”

What could’ve been

As has been the case far too often for Wilshere, it is a case of ‘What if?’ as his Hammers career ended all too soon.

Had he steered clear of the treatment room, we could be witnessing a midfield pair of Wilshere and Declan Rice right now which would arguably be even better than Tomas Soucek and the current vice-captain.

At his peak, the 30-year-old was possibly England’s best player and capable of stealing the show on any stage he was put on.

Having him buzzing around the steady Rice could have seen this Hammers team be more than just Champions League challengers but almost in a title race.

It is a thought some Irons fans won’t want to consider now but you can’t help but think David Moyes would have had an awful lot of fun with those two bossing the midfield every week.

In other West Ham news, Moyes wants to sign the “next Jack Grealish” who is currently shining in the EFL.
