West Ham move seen as step back for Martin Braithwaite
Barcelona forward Martin Braithwaite has reportedly turned down a proposal from West Ham this summer.
According to Sport, the 30-year-old sees joining the Hammers as a step back in his career, despite there being heavy financial incentives to make the move.
The Denmark international, who represented his country at Euro 2020, has also been assured by the club that he can stay given his importance to Ronald Koeman, but next week will be key in terms of making a final decision about this future.
Don’t need him
The entire world knows that we’re in for a striker so the media is doing their bit to stir up ridiculous links with players that were unlikely to move to the London Stadium.
Even if he wanted to join, it would make very little practical and financial sense.
Braithwaite is 30, so even if we give him the benefit of injuries, he’ll lead the line for the next two or three years before eventually needing to be replaced.
We’re also assuming that he would hit the ground running in the Premier League and be a success at the club – something which is not guaranteed in itself.
There were a lot of red flags, to begin with, so we’re glad that even reports from Spain are hinting at the moving not taking place as we need to sign better players and not ones at the end of their careers.
