West Ham move for Arnaut Danjuma is off after relationship breaks down

West Ham United’s proposed move for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma is off due to disagreements over his attitude, according to Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Danjuma arrived in Spain in 2021 after two years at Bournemouth and has flourished under Unai Emery’s leadership, getting 16 goals in just 34 appearances.

David Moyes’ side have been linked with a move for the Dutch star, but Taylor has suggested that the transfer has collapsed due to Moyes’ views on the player’s temperament.

“As reported last week, the Hammers board were keen to push through a deal, but manager David Moyes decided he wanted to prioritise sealing the return of Jesse Lingard,” Taylor said on The Express website.

“However, there were also reports within the media that detailed Moyes’ alleged ‘doubts’ with Danjuma’s temperament and work off the ball – something that has not gone down well with the player’s camp.

“Relationships will now have to be rebuilt if West Ham are to return to the table for the Dutchman later in the window.”

Trust in Moyes’ judgement

During both of his spells as West Ham manager, Moyes has shown that he knows best when it comes to his squad building.

He signed the likes of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal from the Czech First League when they were relative unknowns and put faith in Jesse Lingard when nobody else would.

With that in mind, the West Ham board would be wise to listen to him on this.

Danjuma has been in the Premier League before and failed to set the world alight, making just 14 appearances and failing to score at all.

He missed 19 games of the 2019/20 season through injury and while he has been far more productive this season, he has still had long spells out.

Villarreal were without their star winger for 14 league matches this season, again owing to injury issues.

While he is a very talented player, it is a big risk to spend a major fee on a player with that sort of injury record.

In other West Ham news, the club have been quoted £12million to sign Mohamed Bayo.
