West Ham morale at an ‘all-time low’ after David Sullivan PR stunt
West Ham United are staring down the barrel of relegation from the Premier League and one David Sullivan move has done little to help the morale.
The Hammers have failed to pick up a win in their last 10 top-flight games, drawing four and losing six of them.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side did get some respite in the FA Cup though, as Taty Castellanos scored an extra-time winner as they beat QPR in the third round.
However, the East London side will have to snap back to Premier League reality ahead of their trip to Tottenham on Saturday afternoon, sitting 18th in the table and seven points adrift of safety.
David Sullivan at fault for low morale at West Ham
Back in December, it was revealed that West Ham had cancelled their Christmas party due to their perilous position in the Premier League.
Football finance expert Dan Plumley called the move a PR stunt, but it has had a drastic effect on the feeling around the club.
According to the Daily Mail, morale among the staff at West Ham is at an “all-time low”, not helped by the fact that the Christmas party was cancelled by someone from “above”.
While it is now known who made the decision to call off the event, it can be presumed that Sullivan made the final call as chairman.
The Daily Mail added that the staff are confused as to why their party was cancelled.
West Ham must recover after morale reveal
The situation is already dire for Nuno and West Ham, and their hopes of surviving relegation won’t be helped if the staff around the training ground are unhappy.
Atmosphere is such an important factor in football, and it is clearly having a catastrophic effect on performances and results on the pitch.
The Hammers now need to try and build on their FA Cup win as they take on Tottenham in the Premier League.
Spurs have problems of their own under Thomas Frank, with the Dane under real sack pressure themselves, so the East London side must take advantage.
If West Ham are to have any chance of retaining their Premier League status, they must kick into gear now and go on a positive run.
