West Ham midfielder Declan Rice open to new deal with release clause

Declan Rice is reportedly open to signing a new deal at West Ham provided there is a provision of a release clause inserted into his contract.

According to 90Min, Rice “fully expects” the 2021/22 season to be his last one at the London club amid growing interest from other clubs.

The Hammers have been considering offering him a new deal but due to their rule of not putting release clauses in players’ contracts, they’re unlikely to tie the 22-year-old down to a new deal.

Make an exception

There is a price for everyone in world football and Rice was regarded as more than a £100million player by David Moyes this summer.

According to Sky Sports, he said, “I don’t agree with the owners that Declan Rice is a £100million footballer. Far, far more than £100million. Far, far more.

“I certainly wouldn’t put a price on it. You can decide which figure you want to put on it but I wouldn’t be sanctioning anything like that, that’s for sure.”

While he cannot put a price on it, it’s imperative that the club do, as Rice is keen on moving away from the club and there’s little gain in keeping him against his wishes.

He may think the £100million valuation is a bit much, but one can always negotiate with him to see what price he expects to be sold.

Even the Premier League’s all-time goal scorer Alan Shearer is a huge fan of the player, referring to him and his England compatriot Kalvin Phillips as “magnificent” in July. [LeedsLive]

The 22-year-old is one of the Hammers’ biggest assets and they must look to make as much money as they can from his sale as it will be nigh on impossible to replace him.
