West Ham man Mohammed Kudus impresses national media in 7/10 performance despite Ghana loss
West Ham United attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus impressed Ghanaian national media on Thursday night, despite his nation’s 1-0 defeat by Angola.
According to MyJoyOnline [5 September], the Hammers man turned in a 7/10 display in Kumasi, as the Black Stars opened their AFCON 2025 qualifying campaign with a disappointing defeat through a stoppage-time goal.
Ghana Soccer Net [5 September] scored Kudus with just a 5.5/10 on a frustrating night for Otto Addo’s side.
The 7/10 rating claimed Kudus’ performance to be “the best number 10 performance I’ve seen [from him] in a Ghana shirt, a constant threat down the middle”; the lower mark was reasoned with: “Kudus was active in the midfield, trying to drive play forward but was tightly marked. He missed a key opportunity towards the end.”
West Ham United star frustrated on international duty
It was not a great night for Ghana to open the nation’s AFCON qualifiers, and Kudus’ leading performance will have left him frustrated with teammates.
Thomas Partey, Antoine Semenyo and Tariq Lamptey were among the midfielder’s fellow Premier League representatives to feature in the contest.
Ghana recently appointed Oddo as national team manager following the end of Chris Hughton’s reign, and Kudus is now on 35 caps ahead of the trip to face Niger on Monday.

The 24-year-old’s stock has rapidly risen since arriving at the London Stadium, and he was inevitably linked away from the club during a summer of high turnover in the squad.
He continues to be a key operator for Julen Lopetegui in the midst of a stop-start opening to the team’s campaign.
