West Ham man Angelo Ogbonna shares positive injury update

Key West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna has taken to social media to post a positive injury update as he steps up his rehabilitation.

The 33-year-old suffered a season-ending ACL injury against Liverpool in November at the London Stadium.

The video posted by the Italian on Twitter showed him back in the pool and gym as he works his way back to full fitness.

He said: “Guess who’s back in the gym?”

Huge boost

This is brilliant news for West Ham and Ogbonna in particular. He has been sorely missed this season with his form brilliant before his horrible injury.

Credit must be handed to Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Kurt Zouma who all stepped up in his absence and essentially saved the Hammers’ season in what was then a crisis.

You fear Ogbonna having spent so much time out. He is 33 years old and he has suffered a really bad injury, keeping him out for the whole season.

West Ham

Psychically he would have been on the decline anyway but hopefully, the injury doesn’t set him back even further in what is likely to be the final few years of his career.

Next season could also see him lose his place in the Irons team. David Moyes is hungry for players in the summer transfer window and the east London outfit have been linked with several centre-backs having been unsuccessful in their pursuits in January.

It would be a shame to see him drop out of favour at the club but it would be great news for the team to have new competition for places.

Ogbonna can provide some much-need squad depth next season if it comes to it.
