West Ham make Sunday contact for Nikola Milenkovic

West Ham United made contact with Fiorentina on Sunday over the signing of Nikola Milenkovic.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who insisted that the Irons are set to rival Juventus for the signing of the Serbian.

David Moyes has made the signing of a defender his priority, with Kurt Zouma also under consideration.

Milenkovic is said to be the cheaper option.

Calciomercato have reported that the defender may only cost as low as £13million between now and the end of the window.

Even the highest suggested figure of £17million would be cheaper than what has been discussed by Chelsea for Zouma.

A reported package of up to £25million has been demanded by our London rivals, making any deal tough to complete.

West Ham

Get it done.

We need a new defender, that much is guaranteed.

Fabian Balbuena has left the club, and with Angelo Ogbonna injured, there are only Issa Diop and Craig Dawson currently available.

A deal for Zouma looks beyond our reach, and pushing the boat out to sign him could hinder any future deals this month.

With midfield and the final third other areas that need reinforcing ahead of the new campaign, we can’t waste the majority of our budget on one player.

Milenkovic has great experience behind him at only 23-years-old, having captained Fiorentina in the Serie A.

Contact has now been made, and it should gather pace over the next few days if the Irons are serious.
