West Ham loanee impressing in EFL, could get 1st team chance next season

West Ham United have long produced some of the country’s best young talent and it appears that the trend isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Conor Coventry is the next in a long line of youngsters impressing whenever he gets the chance and David Moyes has taken notice.

According to Football League World, Coventry, 21, could be in line for a chance in the Hammers’ first team next season as he continues to shine while on loan at Kilton Keynes Dons in League One.

FLW also state that if the Irons decide another year on loan is what the Irishman needs, then MK Dons have done enough to put themselves at the front of the queue if they want to keep hold of him for another 12 months.

Risk vs Reward

It’s a very difficult decision to make for Moyes and one that will take an awful lot of thought before he decides what to do with Coventry.

He may be doing well in the third tier but the jump from there to the top six or seven of the Premier League is astronomical.

It is very much a risk versus reward situation where he could struggle to begin with but if he hits his potential, it’s all gravy for the Irons.

Perhaps next season is one too soon for the Irishman given he couldn’t find much game time at Championship strugglers Peterborough United in the first half of 2021-22.

If he can go to the second tier next season and still shine above the rest, then it’s time to give him a go because Moyes can’t risk him sinking in the Premier League and costing the Hammers crucial points.
