According to Spanish football expert Euan McTear, Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera is set for a summer exit amid links with West Ham.

The Venezuelan midfielder spent the last two seasons out on loan playing for Granada where he made 82 appearances over 24 months.

In this time, he scored 10 goals and registered five assists playing predominantly as a box-to-box midfielder.

The Daily Mail have stated that West Ham are keen on his services and will be looking to bring him to the London Stadium.

McTear, who is an author and TV pundit in Spain, spoke to The Transfer Tavern, guaranteeing that the player will be leaving this summer.

He said, "He’s [Herrera] been at Granada for more than a couple seasons now in a row, he’s been key to their qualification for Europa League and then the run to the quarter-finals.

"He’s like a classic box-to-box midfielder, a bit of a throwback in that way, his first instinct is to try and dribble, to pass it forward, charging forward he took so many shots this season.

"He’ll leave them [Manchester City] for sure and who knows where he goes?"

Quality prospect

Per the Mail, the 23-year-old is expected to be available for £20 million - which is a very good deal given how much players go for these days.

He's a workhorse, tenacious, and has the ability to drive from midfield straight into the penalty area - a quality ball carrier that our side lacks.

How the midfield dynamic with Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek will work is an issue for later, but Herrera's arrival would instantly see him in contention for a starting berth.

David Moyes isn't unaccustomed to playing a midfield three and Herrera could be given the licence to roam with Rice playing as the holding midfielder.

This would also ensure that we start playing a slightly more indirect brand of football that will help us retain possession and go on to dominate games we previously wouldn't be able to.
