West Ham-linked Romain Perraud set for PL switch – The Athletic
West Ham are set to miss out on signing Rennes left-back Romain Perraud as Southampton are closing in on completing a summer move for him.
According to The Athletic, Saint boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has met with the player and Perraud has made it clear he wants to sign for them.
This will have come as a blow to West Ham and other Premier League sides including Leeds United and Newcastle, who were also keen on securing his services.

The 23-year-old has agreed to personal terms at the St. Mary’s and Southampton have also finalised a transfer fee with Rennes – making it nigh on impossible for any other clubs to swoop in at the eleventh hour.
Better options there
Perraud’s a good player that was on the radar of mid-table Premier League clubs, but we finished sixth this past season and our signings should be of the elk of the other big sides in the country.
We may not have the financial muscle as the top four clubs, but we can certainly compete with the likes of Tottenham, Leciester and Arsenal in the window.

There’s no denying that we need a left-back this summer, but Perraud may not be the best option for us.
Our attentions have been on Barcelona and Junior Firpo and he’s our personal favourite of all the left-backs that we’ve been linked with.
The Spanish international is a powerful and tireless runner who will walk into our playing eleven. He’ll be an upgrade on Aaron Creswell and add a different dimension to our back line as well as our attack.
According to Mundo Deportivo (June 24, Pg. 18), we’ve already tabled an offer for the player so it’s good to see us ramping up our interest in the highly sought-after left-back.
