West Ham-linked Nayef Aguerd flies into London for talks with Hammers

Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd has flown to London with his agent to engage in talks with West Ham over a potential move, according to Claret and Hugh.

The 26-year-old has been pinpointed by David Moyes as one of the key summer window targets he wants to add to his squad at the London Stadium.

The club and player have already had their meeting in the English capital and he has already made his way back to France although no details of the meeting have been released.

Aguerd would be available for around £25million and the Irons are confident that they can come to agreeable terms with the Ligue 1 side and that they can do the same with the Moroccan international too.

Moyes has already passed the opportunity to sign Burnley’s James Tarkowski on a free transfer as he targets a younger, left-sided defender instead.

Pending

It’s starting to sound like this deal is a matter of when and not if which is highly encouraging after leaving most of our transfer dealings to the last minute over the past 18 months.

The Hammers can’t afford that kind of wait this time around because there is simply too much to be done so it is good that they are looking to get going with this.

We’ll still have those late moves that don’t quite pay off and hopefully one or two that do but Moyes has highlighted the key areas he wants improvements and he’s wasting no time in getting them in.

Aguerd would probably take the place of Angelo Ogbonna in the West Ham squad as the 33-year-old missed most of the season with injury and has been replaced as the main man at the back by Craig Dawson since then and Kurt Zouma is showing no signs of slowing down either.

In other West Ham news, the club owners have pocketed a huge sum of money this season but will they reinvest it into the squad over the summer?
